Local Planning Authorities (District and Borough Councils) have powers to protect trees by making Tree Preservation Orders (TPOs). Tree Preservation Orders are made to protect the amenity of the local area. You should write to your Council giving clear details of the location of the tree, why you think it is important and what threat there is to the tree. It is up to the Council to decide whether protection with a TPO is appropriate in the public interest, so the more information you give about the number of people who can see and enjoy the tree, the better your chances of getting a TPO. |
